1:05 Leave it on, it’ll be a fun game, 1:07 you can see which of your devices are programmed 1:10 the same as me and we can feel closer together 1:11 because I’m lonely but here we go. 1:13 I wanna begin right now with how I control the temperature 1:16 of my home and how easily it was for me to set up. 1:19 This is my Ecobee thermostat and I have to apologize 1:22 that this is in Celsius, I live in Toronto 1:24 for most of my week. 1:26 The controls on here are great because they are touched 1:29 but you can also use your voice to control the thermostat 1:32 and you can also use Alexa. 1:33 It’s also a very smart thermostat, 1:35 you get weather reports on it, 1:37 it can sync your thermostat based on conditions, 1:39 also you can set different modes to control. 1:42 This is more Eco friendly and more Eco efficient 1:45 than a lot of the other thermostats on the market 1:48 because it adapts, it adjusts. 1:50 It also has a sensor in a different part of your house. 1:53 We have the sensor up here. 1:54 The temperature right up here is a little bit warmer 1:57 than what’s downstairs. 1:58 The sensor takes an average temperature between the two 2:01 and adjusts, keeping your house a little bit more cooled 2:04 or heated based on the temperature that’s actually on 2:08 the thermostat. 2:09 It comes out of its panel very easily, 2:11 very simple to install. 2:13 Another reason I like this is compared 2:15 to the Nest thermostats, this company just seems 2:19 to have better customer service. 2:20 I also like the fact that the prices start 2:22 at about $170 dollars. 2:24 This is the most simple thermostat I have ever used 2:26 that’s also very smart. 2:28 And if you’re wondering what is this box 2:30 under the Ecobee, this is actually my home monitoring 2:32 alarm system, I’ll do a demo of this another day 2:35 and also show you how I’ve hooked this up 2:37 with surveillance cameras. 2:38 A link to the Ecobee located right under this video screen, 2:40 a couple of different models but I do like that you can 2:42 score one for under $170 bucks. 2:44 I wanna now move to the door behind me 2:47 and also show you how I can control the basement door 2:49 from anywhere in the world. 2:51 Why would you want a smart lock? 2:52 Couple of things. 2:53 I use mine to automate who comes in and out of my house 2:55 because I use part of it as a business 2:57 but also, coming back late at night, 2:59 you don’t wanna fidget with a door lock, 3:01 you wanna control it from your car 3:03 if there’s an important delivery, an emergency, 3:05 or someone needs to get into your home, 3:07 that’s a great reason. 3:08 Another good reason, you never have to carry keys again. 3:10 If your door gets locked and you don’t have a key, 3:12 you can open it. 3:13 If there’s a kid coming home early from school 3:16 or a babysitter or someone that needs access, 3:19 this is great. 3:21 Also, in the event of a flood or an emergency, 3:23 you could let someone into your home 3:25 that needs to be there. 3:26 You can program at least 60 codes 3:28 that you can give out to different people 3:30 so they can enter their codes but, more importantly, 3:32 you can control the door from anywhere in the world. 3:34 If my wife’s coming home after her shift in the middle 3:37 of the night, she can lock or unlock the door from a car. 3:41 If you have someone that needs to get into your house 3:43 very quickly, if there’s a flood, an emergency responder, 3:46 you can do this. 3:48 And yes you can yell at your Alexa to do it 3:50 but for me it’s the smart phone control 3:52 which is absolutely phenomenal. 3:54 You can also see if your doors are locked or unlocked. 3:56 How many times have you left your house and thought, 3:59 honey, did we remember to lock the door? 4:00 Well, I can see whether or not the door is locked on here 4:03 and then obviously control my alarm as well. 4:05 This is absolutely awesome. 4:09 Controlling the lights around your home 4:11 with your smartphone or your Echo or your voice 4:14 is really easy. 4:15 Weemo makes a lot of products and I used a couple 4:16 for years but I had to constantly reset them, 4:18 they weren’t responsive half of the time, 4:20 I got very frustrated. 4:21 I did shift, recently, to TP-Link 4:24 and their smart Wi-Fi controls just seem to work 4:27 a little bit better. 4:28 Easy to plug this into any outlet 4:30 and then control that or, if you see on the lamp behind me, 4:32 if you wanna control an individual bulb, 4:35 which is also an option, these are under $25 bucks. 4:38 This bulb is smart so you can control the bulb 4:41 without having to plug a hub in or anything to an outlet, 4:45 this communicates directly with your Amazon Echo, 4:48 Alexa, and your voice. 4:49 I find it absolutely awesome that you can control 4:52 virtually any device in your home by just plugging 4:54 in an outlet that’s under $35 bucks and I have a link 4:57 to this located right under the video screen. 4:58 This plugs in and whatever you plug into here, 5:01 you can control. 5:02 The key to this is just naming the device 5:04 whatever you want to call it when you talk to her 5:07 and this is an Echo Show but you could use this 5:10 with an Echo Dot, various other smart home devices. 5:13 This plugs into any standard outlet 5:15 and then whatever you plug into here, 5:18 you can then control without issue. 5:20 So, for example, this would be the coffee maker, 5:21 you name this outlet coffee maker 5:24 and then you don’t need to just be beside it. 5:26 I can control it from bed, 5:28 I can wake up and say, Alexa, turn my coffee maker on. 5:32 – [Alexa] Okay. 5:35 – And now you guys can hear the coffee maker’s on, 5:37 I could’ve done this from anywhere in the world. 5:41 Very convenient. 5:42 Smart home control isn’t just about convenience. 5:44 For me, it’s also about security. 5:46 This faces an exterior window of my home. 5:49 So, I can, for security issues, 5:51 if my wife comes in the back door, I turn this on for her 5:53 when I know her shift ends or I can program it 5:55 but I can also randomly turn the lights on and off 5:59 in this area, making it look like we’re home 6:01 or the house is occupied when we’re not even here 6:04 and I can do that from anywhere in the world 6:06 or I can, of course, do that with my voice. 6:08 Alexa, turn the couch light off. 6:11 – [Alexa] Okay. 6:13 – Alexa, turn the couch light on. 6:16 – [Alexa] Okay. 6:17 – And then if I’m sitting in a hotel somewhere 6:18 and I’m thinking to myself, you know what? 6:20 We’ve been away for a few days, 6:21 I really wanna turn this light on, 6:23 all I need to do is reach for the app 6:24 and then the same control I have here 6:26 without even using my voice. 6:28 Even on bed lamp control, this is something where 6:31 the echo, which is right behind me, 6:33 actually comes in very handy. 6:34 Alexa, turn the bed lamps off. 6:37 – [Alexa] Okay. 6:39 – [Matt] Perfect. 6:40 Alexa, turn the bed lamps on. 6:42 – [Alexa] Okay. 6:44 – In addition to being able to set, 6:45 Alexa, set an alarm for four a.m. tomorrow. 6:48 – [Alexa] Alarm set for four a.m. tomorrow. 6:52 – One of the conveniences of having both lights 6:54 controlled simultaneously is, in the event that 6:56 I’m sleeping alone at an odd time, 6:58 I don’t need to reach over to both bed lamps 6:59 and I don’t know about you guys 7:02 but for me, I’ve knocked, these are glass lamps, 7:04 I’ve knocked them over in the middle of the night, 7:06 trying to reach for that little piece 7:07 that I need to turn, 7:09 I’ve broken a lot of lamps in my day, 7:10 this is just a way to avoid that 7:11 and it’s really convenient. 7:12 One of my favorite ways to automate your television, 7:15 where if you wanna go completely remote control free 7:17 is the Fire TV stick. 7:19 All you have to do, sorry, she’s gonna say hi. 7:23 – [Alexa] Hello. 7:24 – Hello. 7:25 Sorry, in the middle of a demonstration, 7:26 she didn’t know that but this is great 7:28 because this corresponds with your Echo for under $40 bucks. 7:30 You plug this into the back of your television 7:32 and then with a very quick easy 10 to 15 second setup, 7:36 you can control your entire television using your voice. 7:40 This is the Fire TV stick with the Alexa voice remote 7:43 for under $40 bucks and I have a link to this 7:44 located right under the video screen. 7:46 This is HDMI plug and play at its finest. 7:48 You get Dolby audio, works with your Wi-Fi 7:51 within your household. 7:52 This is the voice remote 7:53 so you can speak directly into it 7:55 or use the conventional controls 7:56 and this is the Fire TV stick, 7:58 it’s really, really small. 7:59 Look at this, not much larger than my finger. 8:02 It requires external power so you can plug this into a 8:05 USB port if you’re fortunate enough to have one 8:07 on the back of your TV, most modern TV’s do, 8:10 if you don’t, you can obviously plug this into a wall, 8:13 it comes with an adapter. 8:14 The Fire TV stick itself plugs into an available 8:19 HDMI port, it’s very small. 8:20 Most modern television will have at least one to three 8:24 of these, this just plugs right in. 8:26 It comes paired with the remote, 8:28 so there’s very little you need to do. 8:29 It’s set up and working in seconds. 8:32 Alexa, play The Grand Tour. 8:37 – [Alexa] Getting The Grand Tour from Fire TV. 8:40 – And as you can see, The Grand Tour immediately ready 8:43 to play on my TV, all thanks to the power of my voice. 8:45 One of my other favorite things about the Fire TV stick 8:48 and Fire TV is you get a voice remote, 8:50 so in the event that you don’t wanna pair it 8:52 with an Amazon Echo, you can just speak directly 8:55 into the remote. 8:56 It’s actually very useful and I wanna show you 8:58 what happens when I try and trip it up. 9:00 I’m gonna ask for a program by the wrong name. 9:04 Play The Man in the High Tower. 9:07 – [Alexa] Here’s The Man in the High Castle. 9:09 – So, sorry, I hit the remote, 9:11 but you get the idea. 9:12 It can even search other collections, 9:15 so you can search through millions of titles 9:17 using your voice. 9:18 Let’s try one of my wife’s favorite shows. 9:21 Play Fuller House. 9:24 – [Alexa] Here’s Fuller House. 9:26 – And it pulls it directly from Netflix 9:28 which is impressive and then one of the other things 9:30 that I like, whether you’re controlling with an Echo 9:32 or something else, is you can just, in a matter of moments, 9:35 control music with your voice as well. 9:40 Play music by Kenny Chesney. 9:42 – [Alexa] Shuffling songs by Kenny Chesney. 9:46 – And then obviously you would get the music. 9:48 We don’t have the rights to that but there you go, 9:50 you get the idea. 9:51 So, this is voice control at its finest. 9:53 All of the links for all of the gadgets 9:56 that I featured and the way to make your home more smart, 9:58 located right under this video screen, 10:00 got the full list ready for you and before today’s 10:02 big giveaway, I wanted to ask all the great people watching, 10:04 and thank you for watching, I appreciate it, 10:06 what do you control in your home?
